Follow these steps to make laundry easier so you can stop spending your weekends and evenings washing, folding and hanging.

How to make laundry easier.

Laundry is one of those chores that is unavoidable.

No matter how long you procrastinate, eventually we all need clean underwear.

I know there are some people who LOVE doing laundry.

I am NOT one of them, and I am assuming that you aren’t either (since you’re reading this).

Plus, if you’re a mom like me you are probably overseeing the laundry of your entire family.

Luckily for both of us there are some tricks to the trade that will make the process easier and take up less of your time.

Make Laundry Easier: Simple Tips to you Need to Know

Alright y’all. I’m about to share all my favorite tips to streamline and do laundry as efficiently as possible.

I hope these tips help make laundry day more enjoyable for you to!

1) Declutter your closets

When there are more clothes in your closet you don’t run out of things to wear as quickly.

This typically leads to procrastination and that means when you get around to doing the laundry you are going to be working for hours to get through the piles that have accumulated.

Instead, donate clothes that you no longer love. This will mean doing laundry more frequently and the smaller loads will take less time.

2) Organize your laundry room

Make sure that everything you need to do the laundry is in one central location, whether that’s your laundry room or a laundry closet.

I prefer keeping supplies out on an open shelf so that I can reach for detergent, dryer sheets or stain remover without having to rummage through a cupboard.

3) Choose a color palette for each family member’s wardrobe

In order to not have to sort laundry, I purchase clothing for each family member in certain colors. My son wears blue, navy and grey while my daughter wears white, light pinks and pale yellows.

It takes a little extra planning ahead of time, but this way you don’t have to worry about washing your son’s red sweatshirt with his white jeans.

4) Don’t put socks in the hamper

Matching socks is the biggest time waster ever. Plus they never come out of the wash with their partner. Instead, teach your family members to put their socks into a mesh bag so they are easy to find and sort when they come out of the dryer.

5) In fact, avoid socks altogether if you can

In our house, socks are for fall and winter only.

Once the warmer weather comes around, I pack most of the socks away along with our winter clothing and encourage everyone to wear slip-ons and sandals as much as possible.

You may think this is extreme, but it has been a game changer in our house.

6) Set a reminder on your phone

Another huge time waster when it comes to laundry is having to re-wash clothes that were forgotten in the washer and became musty. Instead, set the timer on your phone when you start the wash so you know exactly when it’s done and can put it straight in the dryer.

7) Sort laundry by person, not by color

I have been doing this for years and it has never been a problem. Each family member has a hamper and everything goes into the laundry at once.

This makes sorting and putting away clothes so easy since everything belongs to one person.

8) Use a hamper that makes sorting easy

Ok, I know that some of you will not be able to get on board with NOT sorting your clothes by color. In that case, simplify and pre-sort your clothes with one of these hampers. That way your clothes will already be sorted by color before you start your laundry.

9) Use effective laundry products

Let’s be honest, not all products are created equal. In order to save yourself time in the laundry room, you need detergents, dryer sheets and stain removers that do what they say they are going to do. Otherwise, you’ll just be stuck scrubbing and washing everything all over again.

10) Don’t put your clean clothes back in a hamper

How many times have you taken your clothes out of the dryer, put them into a hamper and then left them there for a week? At that point they are permanently wrinkled and it will take even more time to iron them all.

Instead, stand right in front of your dryer when the load is done and fold or hang everything right from there. This is a much more efficient use of your time and will prevent the pile of clean clothes from sitting on the foot of your bed for a week.

11) Use drawer organizers

One of the biggest time sucks when it comes to laundry is putting everything away in a neat and orderly fashion to keep your drawers neat and tidy.

Instead, use drawer organizers that allow you to put everything away quickly and easily. They keep everything neat and organized it is place.

12) Share the responsibility

I saved the best laundry hack to make life easier for last y’all:

Stop doing everyone’s laundry for them!

Doing laundry will be so much easier, when everyone does their own. Ok, obviously babies can’t do laundry, but kids as young as 4 can definitely learn how to fold and put away their clothes or maybe even more.

My 6 year old can load and start the washing machine all on his own. We have a stool so he can reach into our top loader and transfer his clothes to the dryer. He is also responsible for folding them and putting them away.

If my family can do it, I promise your’s can too!

There you have it mama! All the best hacks to make laundry easier!
