Halloween Caramel Apple Nachos

Halloween Apple Nachos

Scanning Pinterest, there are so many fun Halloween treats for kids.

Since kids are already on sugar overload during October I wanted to come up with a Halloween snack that my kids would get excited about, and was also a little bit healthy.

However, as a busy mom with two kids (that like to help me in the kitchen) I wanted something that would be easy to put together and for a quick after school snack or delicious fall dessert that’s perfect for Halloween parties.

I was sure I could come up with something just as delicious and fun, so I started brainstorming.

My kids love apples and so we decided to add a bunch of yummy toppings like caramel, white chocolate, and crumbled cookies to make Halloween Caramel Apple Nachos.

With just a few simple ingredients (and the help of my kiddos) this healthy Halloween snack was done in just a few minutes.

Caramel Apple Dessert Nacho – Ingredients

These fun and spooky Halloween Nachos have all the flavors of traditional caramel apples, but in a fun, finger-friendly form that makes them so much easier to enjoy!

These recipe would also be perfect for setting up as a Caramel Apple Nacho Bar, and you could let everyone add their own toppings.

  • (3) Sliced Apples  – You can use any tart apple, but I recommend Granny Smith.
  • Caramel
  • ½ cup of White Melting Chocolates (melted)
  • Purple, Orange, and Green Sprinkles
  • Candy Eyes
  • (3) Oreos Crumbled (large pieces)
  • (3) Chips Ahoy Cookies Crumbled (large pieces)
  • Large platter or charcuterie board

Step-by-Step Directions

1. Start by slicing your apples.

I saved a ton of time by using my handy dandy apple slicer and corer. It creates the perfect sized slices for apple nachos (and school lunches). It also allowed my daughter to slice and core 6 apples in about 2 minutes!

After slicing we gave them a quick dip into some lemon lime soda to prevent browning. You could also give them a quick dip in a water bath with 1-2 tbsp of lemon juice.

Then we blotted them off with a paper towel. This step also helps to prevent the toppings from sliding off.

2. Place the apples on your serving plate in a circular pattern.

3. Drizzle with caramel first, followed by your melted white chocolate.

4. Top with sprinkles and cookie crumbles.

5. Lastly place your candy eyes on top.

Serve and enjoy! The cookies and apples together is such a great flavor combo!

I know I mentioned that this is a “healthy” Halloween treat – you can control the sugar by deciding how much of the toppings to add.

SO Fun!!! My little monster’s gobbled these up in just a few minutes.

How do I prevent my apples from browning?

As mentioned above, my favorite trick is to give them a quick dip into some lemon lime soda before topping with the other ingredients. You can also give them a quick dip in a water bath with 1-2 tbsp of lemon juice, then towel dry.

How do you get the caramel to stick to the apples?

This is a great question! Make sure your apples are dry before adding the caramel. If you find that it still does not stick, warm up the caramel slightly in the microwave for about 10-20 seconds and add to the apples. The heat helps with adhesion.  That’s also why I added the melted chocolate to this recipe, it helps to make everything cling to the apples.

How can I store these apple nachos?

These Apple Nachos are best enjoyed within 1-2 hours of making them.

What kind of apples should I use?

I recommend using a tart apple like Granny Smith. These apples will hold up best and provide the perfect flavor balance with all of the other sweet ingredients. However, any kind of apple you have on hand will work (fuji apples, honeycrip, pippins etc)

Can I use homemade caramel sauce?

Absolutely! Making homemade caramel sauce is a great way to add an extra special touch to your apple nachos.

There you have it mama! A quick and easy recipe for caramel apple dessert nachos that are the perfect fall fun snack idea to make and enjoy with your family during movie nights, or at a Halloween party.

    1. Thanks Rhonda. An apple slicer is such a simple tool, and we use ours all the time. I love slicing up a bag of apples when I bring them home from the market and then storing them in an container with some lemon juice to keep them from browning. I find that our entire family eats more apples this way and it keeps them ready for school lunches – and healthy halloween treats 🙂
